Passive safety has been taken into account in every detail of 607. Front air bags, side chest air bags in the sides of the
front seats, "curtain" air bags for the heads of front and rear passengers, and front seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters on the front and force limiters on the rear are the main elements of passive safety.

The driver's air bag has a capacity of 60-litres instead of the normal 45. It is fitted with controlled release vents with the damping function optimised when the air bag makes contact. A fusible membrane then acts and triggers the bag to vent/open in the best way. On the passenger's side, the inflatable 90-litre bag is of the TCB (thorax centered bag) with cross-shaped vents.

An inflatable 11-litre bag protects the chest of the driver and front seat passenger, and is deployed from the side of the seat. The heads of the front and rear passengers are also protected from side (or combined three-quarter front) impacts by a curtain air bag which, arranged in the roof bow behind the upper fittings, is deployed in 18 ms from the front air pillar
to inflate like an air mattress. From the pillar, the bag extends from the fitting in a manner specially developed and patented.
